Dental Check-up
A twenty-minute visit twice a year keeps every other appointment small.
Who needs check-ups, and how often is honest
A check-up is due when…
- It's been 6 months or more since your last one
- Something feels different: a twinge, a rough edge, bleeding gums
- You're new to the area and want a dentist who knows your history
- You have no complaints at all; that's when checking is cheapest
…and if something is already hurting
A check-up is preventive; if you're in pain right now, you don't need to wait for a routine slot. Message us on WhatsApp describing what you feel and we'll fit you in as an urgent visit instead.
Most check-ups end with a scaling in the same chair, same visit; the examination tells us whether yours should.

What happens at a dental check-up?
A check-up is a systematic look at your whole mouth: every tooth surface, existing fillings, gums, tongue, soft tissues and jaw joints. It is how problems get found at the stage where fixing them is quick: a chalky spot instead of a cavity, tender gums instead of loose teeth.
At Happy Tooth Dental Clinic in Puchong, the check-up ends with something we consider non-negotiable: a plain-language explanation of what was found. You should leave able to repeat, in one sentence, the state of your mouth and the plan, even if the plan is simply “all clear, see you in six months.”
Why every six months?
Six months is roughly how long early decay takes to progress from “watchable” to “needs a filling,” and how quickly tartar builds to the point of irritating gums. Checking at that rhythm means problems are caught in their smallest, cheapest, most comfortable form. Stretch the interval to years and the same problems are still found, just bigger.
If it has been a long time since your last visit, come anyway. There is no scolding here, just a fresh starting point.
Nothing unknown, nothing to fear
A conversation first
Anything bothering you? Any changes since last time? You talk, we listen, and that steers everything after.
Teeth, one by one
A mirror and gentle probe check every surface for early decay, worn fillings and chips. You feel light touches, nothing more.
Gums and soft tissue
Gum line, tongue, cheeks and jaw joints get a look too; oral health is more than teeth. Completely painless.
The honest verdict
You see what we see, X-rays or mirror in hand, and leave knowing what, if anything, needs doing, and how urgently.
Will it hurt? A check-up doesn't hurt: it's looking, not treating. If a probe touches a sensitive spot, that twinge is itself useful information, and it lasts half a second. Nothing happens in this appointment without you knowing about it first.
- DoEat, drink, carry on; nothing was done that needs recovering from
- Don'tSit on the findings; if something needs a filling, the sooner it is done, the smaller it stays
- DoBook the next check-up before you leave; you will thank yourself later
- DoWhatsApp us between visits if anything changes
- Don'tWait for pain to be your reminder: pain means something has already progressed
Call us if: anything we flagged for "watching" starts to feel different, or a new twinge appears between visits; a quick message saves a long appointment.
Nothing to heal: a check-up is information, not intervention. What you get is a clear picture: what's healthy, what needs watching, what needs treating, and what it will involve. No surprises, no pressure.
What determines the fee
- Examination only, or with scaling — most people combine both in one visit, which saves a trip
- X-rays if indicated — taken only when they would change the plan, not by default
No surprises — that's the rule
You will get the exact fee after examination, before any treatment starts.
“The best check-ups are the boring ones. My favourite sentence in dentistry is 'everything looks fine', and the patients who hear it most are the ones who come twice a year.”

Frequently asked questions
Do I really need a check-up if nothing hurts?
Yes, and that is the point. Decay and gum disease are painless until they are advanced; a check-up catches them while treatment is still small, cheap and comfortable.
Will I be pushed into treatments I don't need?
No. You will see what we see, with an explanation of what happens if you treat it and if you wait. "Watch and re-check in six months" is a recommendation we make often.
Are dental X-rays safe?
Modern digital X-rays use a very small dose, comparable to a short flight. We take them only when the answer would change your care.
Can I combine a check-up with cleaning?
Yes, and most patients do: the check-up first, then scaling in the same chair if needed. One visit, both boxes ticked.
